Westlake Football Falls in State Championship

Talley footballThe Westlake High School Chaparrals lost the Class 6A Division I state championship in overtime to the Galena Park North Shore Mustangs. After a regulation score of 14-14, the Mustangs scored on a 25-yard drive to win the game at NRG Stadium in Houston 21-14. It is the second state title for the Mustangs, following a 2003 Class 5A Division I championship.

The Westlake players enjoyed a spirited sendoff prior to the game and have ended their season with a 14-2 record. The loss was Westlake’s fifth consecutive loss in a championship game since 2000. Westlake has won one state championship, in 1996 as a 5A team.

The 2015 state championship game was the first overtime game in Texas’ largest high school division since Westlake lost to Euless Trinity 41-38 in 2009.
