Austin’s Most Charitable Zip Codes

Esri Data ranked the most charitable zip codes in Austin, Texas, with 78746 coming in tops across the area. Compiled by the Austin Business Journal, the rankings are reflective of cash donations that were given in 2017 up to November 2017, and the formula included dividing total charitable contributions by the number of households in each zip code.  

The zip code of 78746 contributed $10,807,059 to charitable organizations, with an average contribution of $920.14. The 78746 zip code starts just east of MoPac south of the Colorado River and covers westward through Rollingwood and Westlake to west of Capital of Texas Highway. Religious contributions more than doubled charitable donations in this zip code, with $28,202,638 donated to religious organizations. Educational donations came in at $2,108,504, and political contributions came in at $539,741.

The zip code of 78733 came in second in the Austin area, with an average contribution of $676.06, totaling $2,097,804. The zip code of 78733 is west of 78746 and continues along a bend of Lake Austin. Religious donations were triple charitable contributions, with $6,863,128 total donated, for an average contribution of $2211.77. Educational donations reached $421,221, with political donations reaching $100,881.

The third highest zip code was 78738, which encompasses the city of Bee Caves, as well as the homes along and off of Highway 620 and Highway 71. Homes here had an average contribution of $653.87, for a total of $4,978,584 in charitable donations. Religious contributions totaled $16,694,969, educational donations totaled $1,079,601, and political contributions totaled $226,007.
