Former Travaasa Austin Undergoes Renovation

The former Travaasa Austin is undergoing an extensive renovation this year as it transitions to a Miraval Austin wellness resort following the West Austin property’s purchase by Hyatt in December 2016. With sweeping views of Lake Travis as well as the sanctuary of established oak groves, the 70-room resort on 220 acres of Texas Hill Country had been a popular wellness destination that previously had been named the number six resort and spa in Texas and the Southwest in the Readers’ Choice Awards.

The expansion will bring the number of guest rooms from 70 to 120, the spa space will approximately double to just over 21,000 square feet, the number of treatment rooms will grow from 19 to 30, and the pool will be converted to a spa pool. The restaurant also will be expanded, with a new pool café, coffee bar, cocktail bar, a juice bar, and a grab-and-go market added. Additionally, the resort will offer new wellness areas, an outdoor amphitheater, a fitness center, and an equine experience center.

The remodeled and new areas of the resort are expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Hyatt will operate three Miraval resorts following this project’s completion. Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa opened in 1995, and a Miraval resort in Lenox, Massachusetts will open in 2019. Monarch Beach Resort in California also added a Miraval spa in 2016, and in November 2017, Miraval Life and Balance Spa opened as part of Park Hyatt St. Kitts.
